The Village of Albion Board of Trustees held a special meeting Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, at 4:30 PM at Village Hall, 35 East Bank Street, and its most closely watched vote of the evening was not about money but about a patch. On a motion by McMurray, Trustee, seconded by Buczek, Trustee, the board voted to let Mogle, Police Chief, send a patch from the Albion Police Department to Paul Kilmurray on behalf of his son, Dexter. The motion carried, but it was the only vote of the night on which Riley, Deputy Mayor, is recorded abstaining, and the only one on which Javier, Mayor, is recorded casting his own vote, marked aye. Javier said he would reach out to the Orleans County Sheriff's Department to see if it would send a patch as well, and asked Gavenda, Attorney, to follow up by email to confirm the vote. The rest of the meeting covered routine business. Trustees reviewed the budget for code enforcement with Chris Kinter, Code Enforcement, though no figures are recorded in the minutes. They carried a motion to have the deputy mayor write a letter of support backing a Community Action of Orleans and Genesee application for a Go Art grant for a mural at 131 S Main St. They authorized Jay Pahura, DPW Superintendent, to draw $1,963.45 from equipment reserves for a mounted generator, and approved a long list of surplus items proposed by Jason Zicari, Cemetery Supervisor, ranging from push mowers and blowers to overhead door panels. The board also accepted applications from five candidates for sewer treatment plant operator trainee, to be kept on file for one year; the minutes record no vote on that item. Barry, Trustee, was absent throughout. The meeting adjourned at 5:25 PM.
