Albion students from all three district schools took part in adapted sports at the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged in Brockport on October 16, according to a district account published October 21. The district reports that 31 students made the trip, accompanied by high-school peer mentors.[1] The outing connected preparation at school with a day of competition and recreation. Earlier in the week, athletes practiced activities with their mentors in the elementary-school gym. At Brockport, the district says, they moved between stations with those mentors after joining the opening ceremony.[1] ## Activities adapted for participants The district describes field activities including shot put, long jump, discus, club throw, precision throw and archery, alongside obstacle courses. Track activities included races over distances from 40 to 200 meters and wheelchair-specific races.[1] Its account places elementary-, middle- and high-school students in the Albion group. School staff, teachers and family members also attended to support the athletes, the district says. The report does not give an event-by-event results table or medal totals; the participation figure should not be read as a count of awards.[1] The district describes the Games as an annual opportunity for students from central and western New York to participate in sports and recreation adapted to their abilities. It identifies Camp Smile Inc. and the Webster Lions Club as supporters of this year's event.[1] ## A school follow-up is still ahead The district says athletes and their peer mentors will meet again at an in-school awards ceremony in November. Its October 21 account does not give a date for that ceremony, so it remains a planned follow-up rather than an event already completed.[1] ## Source [1] Albion Central School District, “31 Purple Eagles compete in the 2026 Empire State Games,” October 21, 2026. https://www.albionk12.org/article/3202405
